Understanding commission differences: direct quoting vs. market access (sub-appointment) vs. placement desk
*If you signed up for a new Bold Penguin Terminal on or after June 1st, 2026, the direct-appointment activation flow is not currently available on your Terminal.
When working with the Bold Penguin Terminal, the commission structure varies depending on whether you quote directly, through a market access appointment (sub-appointment), or use the Placement Desk. Below is a detailed explanation of the differences:
Direct Quoting
If you quote and place policies directly using your own direct appointment, you are entitled to receive 100% of the commission. This method allows you to retain the full commission amount for the policies you place. *If you signed up for a new Bold Penguin Terminal on or after June 1st, 2026, the direct-appointment activation flow is not currently available on your Terminal.
Market Access (sub-appointment)
If you quote and place policies through your Bold Penguin Market Access appointment, the commission is 75/25. These are the carrier appointments that you've requested through Bold Penguin.
Placement Desk
When you choose to place policies through the Placement Desk, the commission is shared. Specifically, the commission is split 50/50 between you and the Placement Desk. This arrangement is designed to reflect the collaborative nature of using the Placement Desk for policy placement.
By understanding these commission structures, you can make informed decisions about how to quote and place policies that align with your business needs and goals.
